About this Project
The UD Montessori Teacher Residency provides the highest-quality Montessori instruction and coaching for regional schools. The program prepares teachers for the expansion of Montessori in the diverse public sector with both school-wide and practice-based learning. Montessori Teachers in Delaware are changing the face of education in partnership with Sussex Montessori school and First State Montessori Academy. These funds will be used to support recent UD graduates who wish to pursue their Montessori training. Your support of the UD Montessori Teachers Academy is preparing teachers to serve children in public Montessori Schools across the state of Delaware and the Mid-Atlantic Region, thereby expanding opportunities for children to have a Montessori educational experience, a child-centered approach that leads to children who are well-prepared for life.
Donor Impact: How your support makes a difference!
The Montessori method focuses on children’s unique development and abilities, emphasizing individualized learning experiences, problem-solving and social development. Teachers are considered guides to knowledge, not directors of learning. There are early childhood, elementary, middle school and high school Montessori programs, each requiring specialized teacher preparation. Montessori Schools are expanding across the United States and the world community providing innovative child-centered learning experiences. In the United States there are more than 500 public schools with a concentration of them in the Mid-Atlantic region. Growing schools equal a growing demand for Montessori teachers. Your gift will support young teachers who are eager to teach in schools where each child’s interests, passions, dreams, skills and needs shape their learning experience and drive the commitments and actions of the adults and communities supporting them.
