About this Project
Data Enchanted, a Taylor-Swift themed data workshop series, introduces students to coding and data analysis and provides a fun, supportive environment for students to develop these skills. Students learn to use the statistical software Stata to build, clean and transform data for analysis through this eight-party series which includes workshops such as You Belong With Me: Building and Structuring Data for Analysis, I Knew You Were Trouble: Transforming and Cleaning Data, and Long Story Short: Presenting Data Efficiently. Data Enchanted also motivates and prepares students for a 24-hour data competition called The Econ Games. The past three years, a team of undergraduate students from a variety of majors have participated in this intense challenge in which teams analyze data and present their findings to a panel of industry partners. These two data programs provide valuable hands-on experience working with data that students can continue to build on in the classroom.
Donor Impact: How your support makes a difference!
The initial series of Data Enchanted was funded through two teaching innovation grants and was a hit with participants. Interested students continue to inquire about the second round of the program; however, neither grant provides funding for subsequent rounds of the innovative program, so we are looking to donor support. We are hoping to run the second round of Data Enchanted in the spring 2025 semester. In addition, we are looking to send a team of 5-7 students to The Econ Games 2025 which will be held in Cincinnati, Ohio at the beginning of April. These programs provide a valuable experience for students and provide insight into skills they should prioritize developing during their time at UD.
Gifts may also provide general support for preparing students for and sending them to The Econ Games.
