About this Project
JAX, as E-52 Student Theatre affectionately refers to our costume closet, has a long history. The name comes from Jack Sherman Sturgell, who used to manage Perkins Student Center and was an avid supporter of theatre at UD. We used to store our costumes in Jack’s basement, so we’d always “head over to Jack’s” when we needed something. When we got our very own space in Perkins, the name stuck.
As we look to the future of theatre with E-52, we want to continue producing inventive shows like She Kills Monsters, Into the Woods and period pieces like Perfect Arrangement that require specific costume pieces to fully realize the productions onstage. E-52 is built off of the dedication and hard work of UD students, and our two annual events (Short Attention Span Theatre and 24 Hours of Theatre) that highlight student-written shows would not be possible without the collection we are building in JAX. We never want to limit our student writers, and this means their creative ideas sometimes require very creative and specific costumes. Help us continue supporting these students by giving them all the resources they need to see their work make it to the stage.
Donor Impact: How your support makes a difference!
The smallest donations can make a huge difference when it comes to our costume closet. Smaller donations can get us small period pieces that communicate time period and authenticity to our audience. For silly, creative shows like SAST, our writers often make pop culture references that hinge on one or two accessories. You’d be shocked at the number of college-aged men who don’t have dress clothes, and just $20 for a button-down can make or break a production. When our understudies go onstage, having costumes that fit them and look good helps them feel confident and prepared in an otherwise chaotic and stressful situation.
Costumes might seem like a small part of a show, but it’s so important to what we do. Your donation would help us continue giving opportunities to student writers, directors, performers, and costume designers alike.
In addition to costumes, gifts may provide general support for E-52 Student Theatre.
