About this Project
Arthritis is a debilitating condition that affects 1 in 4 Americans and is a leading cause of disability. Osteoarthritis, a common form of arthritis, occurs when the cartilage that cushions the joints breaks down over time. As the cartilage wears away, bones begin to rub together, causing painful "grinding" and making movement increasingly difficult.
The Parreno Lab is at the forefront of the fight against osteoarthritis by developing bioengineered cartilage. In collaboration with clinician and material scientists, the lab is creating bioengineered articular cartilage designed to mirror the structure and function of healthy, youthful cartilage. This breakthrough technology aims to rejuvenate damaged joints, offering relief from the pain and restoring mobility.
How your support makes a difference!
Your gift to the Department of Biological Sciences will directly support the students at the Parreno Lab, providing them with valuable opportunities to advance their research. It will help fund essential project supplies and enable the lab to share their groundbreaking work with the broader scientific community.
Gifts will be designated to the Department of Biological Sciences. The Department will direct funds to support the work happening in the Parreno Lab.
