UD Alternative Breaks (UDAB)
Replenish UDAB's financial aid fund and help keep service programs financially accessible.

About this project:

UD Alternative Breaks (UDAB) is a uniquely impactful community service program. UD students take time out of their winter or spring breaks to travel to other communities and work on service projects with local partners. Each program has a need or issue they are addressing in the community, such as food insecurity and nutrition, children’s literacy or housing insecurity.

This spring break, we traveled to Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and Washington D.C. so our teams could work with their community partners on issues like affordable housing, girls' empowerment and environmental sustainability. We returned to Puerto Rico for our winter program and worked on multiple projects focused on disaster relief and environmental justice. In order to keep this opportunity financially accessible to as many students as possible, we offer financial aid based on students’ financial need—usually distributing more than $5,000 in aid per break.

One 2024 participant reflects on their UDAB experience: “Participating in two UDAB programs has genuinely been the most special and life-changing experiences of my life. UDAB not only allows students to serve different communities but also allows us the opportunities to connect more with others and grow our leadership skills in ways not many other experiences could.”
