Plant & Soil Science Graduate Student Organization
Help launch a grant writing competition to support graduate research in plant and soil sciences.

About This Project

The Plant and Soil Science graduate program is a multidisciplinary community, ranging in research spanning from the ground to the canopy and across landscapes from agroecosystems to urban forests. The PLSC GSO Grant Writing Competition creates a space for discussion across these diverse fields of study.

Through this competition, graduate students gain valuable experience developing competitive grant proposals while also learning how research funding decisions are made from the perspective of a review panel. As a student-led and student-judged event, participants in otherwise highly specialized disciplines will have the chance to share their work with their peers and experience the grant review process firsthand.

How your support makes a difference!

Your gift would enable us to develop our Grant Writing Competitions and fund student awards for the year! Contributions will be used to host grant writing workshops throughout the semester, providing our graduate students with the tools and guidance needed to craft strong research proposals. Grants awarded through this competition will be used to support research expenses and/or cover travel expenses for conferences and presentations. These opportunities allow our students to share their research, build their professional networks and create the foundation for their future scientific careers.

This year, we aim to open our grant writing competition to all students within the Plant and Soil Science Department with the goal of expanding this into a college-wide or even university-wide graduate grant writing competition.

By supporting this initiative, you help provide firsthand professional development that prepares the next generation of plant and soil scientists to secure funding, communicate their research effectively and tackle pressing environmental challenges across multiple fields.
