Biden School: Semester in D.C.
Offset living expenses for students with unpaid internships.

About This Project

Every spring the University of Delaware runs the non-partisan Semester in Washington, D.C. program where a select group of students travel to Washington, D.C. to live, work and learn in our nation's capital. Students find internships that they complete Monday through Thursday, and they take in-person classes on Friday. Some internships are unpaid, and the cost of living in Washington, D.C. is high.

This gift fund is used to defray expenses for the students who participate in the program and will ensure that financial need is not a barrier to engaging in a transformative public service experience. Donations to the Semester in Washington, D.C. Program will help attract a broad and representative cohort of UD students and provide greater opportunities for them to participate in American democracy, public policy making and public affairs.

How your support makes a difference!

Your gift to the Semester in Washington, D.C. Program will support students with financial need so they can focus on their internship experience. Some students are hesitant to apply to the Semester in Washington, D.C. Program because they are concerned about the high cost of living in D.C. And for those students who do apply and are accepted into the program, some end up accepting lower priority paid internships over higher priority unpaid internships because they cannot afford to not be compensated for their work. This is not acceptable. Students who are called to public service should never be forced to make a decision because of their personal financial situation.
