About This Project
Each day, thousands of Blue Hens come to Morris Library to study, research, and learn, but right now, student parents don’t have a space that truly supports both their academic and caregiving responsibilities. Nearly 15% of our graduate students are parents, caring for almost 480 children ages 5 and under, and many cite affordable, reliable childcare as a major barrier to continuing their education.
This spring, the UD Library, Museums and Press plans to convert Room 118 on the first floor of Morris Library into a dedicated Family Study Space, creating a welcoming, functional environment designed specifically for student parents and their young children. The space will include seating for up to 12, our existing Parent+Child Study Carrel, and new shelving with a curated collection of children’s board books to browse, read or check out. With additional support, we will add child-sized seating, a reading rug, children’s activities and engaging wall art to create a space where student parents can focus on their work while their young children play safely nearby. Your gift helps remove a real barrier to student success and creates a more inclusive, equitable learning environment for Blue Hens balancing school and family.
How your support makes a difference!
Your gift will directly fund furniture, learning materials and child-friendly features for the new Family Study Space, helping create a safe, functional environment where student parents can study while caring for their children. Because of you, more students will be able to stay enrolled, stay focused and stay on track toward their degrees.
Gifts to this project will be allocated to University Libraries. The Library will direct support to the Family Study Space.
