About this project:
This project is raising funds for two data programs that provide valuable hands-on experience working with data like students might use in their future jobs: Data Enchanted and the Econ Games. Students report these experiences provide them with clarity and motivation for building on these skills in the classroom.
Data Enchanted, a Taylor Swift-themed data workshop series, introduces students to coding and data analysis and provides a fun, supportive environment for students to develop these skills. Students learn to use the statistical software Stata to build, clean and transform data for analysis through this eight-party series which includes workshops such as You Belong With Me: Building and Structuring Data for Analysis, I Knew You Were Trouble: Transforming and Cleaning Data, and Long Story Short: Presenting Data Efficiently.
Data Enchanted prepares students for a 24-hour data competition called The Econ Games. For the past four years, a team of undergraduate students from a variety of majors have participated in this intense challenge in which teams analyze data and present their findings to a panel of industry partners. This year, the data sponsor for The Econ Games is Equibase, the data collection group for the Thoroughbred racing industry. Students have already begun to prepare, traveling to the Fair Hill Training Center where they met Michael Matz, a renowned Thoroughbred trainer and horseman who has won the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes.
How your support makes a difference!
Your gift will help us send a team of UD students to the 2026 Econ Games and run Data Enchanted for the second time. These two experiences perfectly complement the UD curriculum and provide students with unique experiences to draw upon in their future classes, interviews and careers. Thank you for your support!
Gifts may be used as general support for The ECON Games, including preparation for the Games through programs like Data Enchanted.
