About this project:
The E-52 Props Closet, located in Pearson Hall, holds treasures of our organization, remnants of our rich history and props that continuously return to stage to bring our productions to life. Perhaps our most memorable prop is the banana, the logo of our organization, which, per tradition, must wind up in every show’s closing. Props can be a glimpse into the past, like old radios and wall decor of the early 1920s, or catapult you into the future or fantasy world with laser guns and magic beans! Into the Woods even featured a life-size calf made of wood and paper mache, bringing the character of Milky White to life.
Much of the physical comedy E-52 is known for is derived from having the right props, and such props are often necessary for committing to the bit! Take the true stars of Noises Off, the sardines that somehow appeared everywhere, or The One-Act Play That Goes Wrong’s wall hangings that just wouldn’t stay up! Even the murder mysteries we’re so fond of often rely on having the right props to pull audiences in. The Game’s Afoot featured a prop knife filled with magnets whose counterparts were sewn into a dress to create the illusion of a standing stab wound! And what’s Clue without the rope, the dagger, the revolver, the pipe, the candlestick and the wrench?
Proceeds to this project will directly benefit the quality and maintenance of our props and ensure that our closet has the flexibility and organization to safely store and grow our collection!
How your support makes a difference!
Your gift can make a huge difference when it comes to our props closet. Props do not have to be expensive or elaborate to be crucial to the show, and donations in the single digits can get us far when it comes to single-use props like bread for the Baker in Into the Woods or blood capsules for Dracula in Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors. Further, more resources allow us to stretch our creativity and retrofit props so we can fit the specific visions of student writers and directors. Our annual student-written play festival SAST is the chief example of facilitating student creativity, with unique props such as a custom-made Ouija board, a sketch pad for a silent Michael Myers, and a homemade campfire of foam rocks and tissue paper for scary ghost stories. Your donation would help us continue giving opportunities to student writers, directors, performers and props teams alike.
Gifts may also be used as general support for E-52.
