About this project:
Communication is connection, identity and belonging. At the University of Delaware Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic, our Life Participation Groups empower individuals of all ages and abilities to engage more fully in their daily lives, expanding beyond traditional therapy. Nearly 200 community members participate each semester, building communication confidence through meaningful, real-world experiences.
Our programs support a wide range of communication needs and also serve as a powerful clinical training model. Graduate student clinicians co-facilitate the groups under the guidance of experienced faculty, gaining hands-on experience in person-centered, culturally responsive, and neurodiversity-affirming care. Students learn to empower communication for participation, strengthening both their clinical skills and their humanity as future speech-language pathologists.
How your support makes a difference!
Your generosity directly strengthens our Life Participation Groups and expands access for nearly 200 children, teens, adults and families each semester. Gifts help us create meaningful, real-world communication opportunities while barriers for families. Together, we are building a community where every voice is valued and everyone has a place to belong.
Every gift, of any size, helps build confidence, connection and lifelong communication success for our participants while supporting the next generation of speech-language pathologists in training.
Gifts to this project are designated to the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. The Department then directs support to the Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic's Life Participation Groups.
