Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures
ABOUT THIS PROJECT
A student uses their language skills to support learning in an elementary school abroad. Another creates sound for a professionally developed game. Another shares a moment of fun with a child receiving care at Nemours.
These are opportunities for Blue Hens to discover what they can do and how their skills can make a difference.
Through faculty-led programs, semester exchanges and international internships, students experience languages and cultures firsthand. They practice communicating across differences, navigate unfamiliar settings and build connections beyond the classroom.
Here at home, internships connect students with schools, businesses, media and healthcare organizations. Language students put their communication skills to work, while Game Studies & Esports students apply their creativity through writing, game development and experiences that bring play to children receiving medical care.
Whether abroad or close to home, students gain opportunities to explore careers, develop practical skills and contribute to the communities around them. But these experiences require resources, and the cost of going abroad can keep students from participating. Your support can help more Blue Hens take that next step.
THE IMPACT OF YOUR SUPPORT
Your gift to the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures supports both the students who participate and the programs that make these experiences possible. Funds will help provide:
- Financial assistance for students going abroad, helping reduce the cost of participation
- Faculty instruction at overseas partner institutions, supporting meaningful academic experiences
- Support for internship opportunities at UD and in the surrounding community, connecting classroom learning with practical experience
- Student outreach and information sessions, helping students discover opportunities and understand how to participate
More than a century after one of our department’s faculty members, French Professor Raymond Kirkbride, led UD’s pioneering study abroad program in 1923, we continue to connect Blue Hens with learning beyond the classroom.
