Refugee & Displaced Student Fund
ABOUT THIS PROJECT
Imagine your home country is being taken over by the Taliban and you are a woman who wants to go to college. Imagine making the decision to leave your family and country behind in order to get an education, and you get on a plane without knowing where it will land. You arrive in America then wait on a military base for three months before learning that the University of Delaware has offered to take you in and give you an education.
That's what happened to the 15 Blue Hen women from Afghanistan in 2021 who have learned English, explored American culture and studied fiercely to get a college degree.
Join the 200 donors who have stepped up to make these women's dreams come true and feel the power of making a personal difference in the lives of these young women.
THE IMPACT OF YOUR SUPPORT
Your gift supports UD's refugee students' personal living expenses, including laundry and food during academic breaks. Most recently, the women lost their health insurance due to changes to Medicaid. We've been able to pay for their continued care through the generosity of our donors but these costs significantly reduced the Fund. We invite you to give generously so the remaining students have their needs met.
Gifts to this fund may support additional refugees/displaced students and their related needs in the future.
